Have you ever dreamt of driving a steam train? Then turn your dream into reality.

Our Driver Experience Courses give you the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of driving and firing a steam locomotive, on our 1 mile long scenic narrow gauge railway in glorious Devon.

The Steam Locomotive Driver Experience Courses on the Beer Heights Light Railway offer you the chance to have the footplate to yourself, whilst benefiting from expert tuition given by our highly experienced staff.

Participants are welcome to bring up to two guests who will benefit from free entry to Pecorama. This includes the Model Railway Exhibition, glorious Gardens with stunning views over Lyme Bay and unlimited rides on the Beer Heights Light Railway.
 

Course Itinerary:

9.30am start: Meet your instructor and receive a half hour safety brief and theory session (with tea and biscuits) in our fully equipped Lecture Theatre.

I hour preparing, steaming up and learning controls

Driving until lunch (with our instructor right behind you)

12.45-13.35pm Buffet lunch in the Garden Room Restaurant

Driving until around 15.45pm then assisting with the disposal of your locomotive

Finish at 4.30pm

Cost:  £130 per person on a one to one basis

              £85 per person (total £170) on a two to one basis

 

This price includes all refreshments throughout the day for the participant(s) and a personalised certificate to commemorate your day with us.

Is there an age limit? Yes; attendees must be 18 years and over

When are the courses available? Generally courses are held on Wednesdays during May, June, September and October, but other dates may be available by request;

Do I need any special clothing? Overalls are recommended to protect clothing and a waterproof jacket. Suitable gloves will be provided.

How many will attend each course? Generally courses are held on a 1 to 1 basis however should you wish to share your experience with a friend we can accommodate a maximum of 2.

Payment:

50% deposit payable on booking. Balance to be paid no later than 14 days prior to course date.

Cancellation policy:

Refunds for cancellations will be considered up to 48 hours prior to the day. Where after a maximum of 50% refund may be given.
