Peco Poppy Day 2011
Sunday 3rd of July saw the PECO Poppy Day. The celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Royal British Legion was hailed a success after visitors flocked to see the new commemorative plaque mounted on donated Beer Quarry stone.
The plaque was unveiled by the President of the Legion's Devon Branch, Deputy Lord Lieutenant. Rear Admiral Cheadle in a ceremony also attended by Devon Legion County Chairman, Ralph Howard-Williams and other Legion officials and members.
This was followed by a short service of Remembrance conducted by the Vicar of Beer, the Reverend Jeremy Trew.
Other in attendance included Yvonne Hawker, standard bearer and organiser for Beer's Women's Section of the Legion as well as Ralph Cox, Parade Marshall for Devon.
The fundraising day also included several performances from Lyme Regis Town Band, an exciting display of military vehicles and a visit from the Royal British Legion's National Motorcycle Riders.
A special poppy garden was created for the day and one of the Peco Loco's was renamed 'The Legion' in commemoration of the milestone anniversary .
The day was a credit to Carol Arnold, Legion community fundraiser for Devon and a her band of volunteers.
